Verizon to add 4G coverage in 38 cities… (big news)

If you’re a nerd like me, this is HUGE.  Verizon, long known as a big PITA for locking and restricting their poor selection of phones, has really made a comeback in my mind.  First, the rollout of several awesome Android based phones (Motorola’s DroidX, Samsung’s Fascinate), and now the announcement of 38 cities that will have 4G (LTE) coverage by the end of this year!!

And the winners are….

  • Akron, Ohio
  • Athens, Georgia
  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Baltimore, Maryland
  • Boston, Massachusetts
  • Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Cleveland, Ohio
  • Columbus, Ohio
  • Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas
  • Denver, Colorado
  • Fort Lauderdale, Florida
  • Houston, Texas
  • Jacksonville, Florida
  • Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Los Angeles, California
  • Miami, Florida
  • Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Minnesota
  • Nashville, Tennessee
  • New Orleans, Louisiana
  • New York, New York
  • Oakland, California
  • Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  • Orlando, Florida
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Phoenix, Arizona
  • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  • Rochester, New York
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • San Diego, California
  • San Francisco, California
  • San Jose, California
  • Seattle/Tacoma, Washington
  • St. Louis, Missouri
  • Tampa, Florida
  • Washington, D.C.
  • West Lafayette, Indiana (Purdue University going all in!)
  • West Palm Beach, Florida

Now bear in mind this fantastic news with this tidbit… Verizon does NOT currently sell ANY 4G devices!  Guess I’ll be purchasing a new phone in early 2011… :-P
